Country & Western

Call of the Canyon
1940
Billy Hill
Originally recorded in the '40s by Sinatra (with Tommy Dorsey) and Glenn Miller. Gene Autry also did it. I cut this with the Regal-Dobro uke, croaked out a vocal, and then shipped off an MP3 to my good friend, the amazingly talented Gerald Ross, for some extra added musical treatment with his guitar, bass, and lap steel. I then re-did the rhythm uke track to fit with Gerald's superior take, added a lead uke track with the Paul Summers Hawaiian uke and some fuzzy, flangey effects, and re-croaked the vocal. This is the only collaborative song on the site so far. Thanks Gerald!

The One Rose That's Left in My Heart
1937
D. Lyon/L. McIntyre
I'm putting this in the "Country" section, but it's also considered a pop standard, and, I've heard it performed in an island mood. Crosby did it, as did Johnny Cash and Leon Redbone. One of the first tunes I ever learned to play on the uke.

Beautiful Dreamer
1864
Stephen Foster
The most beautful popular melody of all time. Low-end recording quality, with a banjo uke. What less could you ask for?
